Everyday I wake up and think today is the day! The day I get my life together and have the motivation to become the best version of myself! And by 10am my all so powerful motivation train is slowing down. By 12pm it’s at a complete stop waiting for a fuel up. Well not anymore!
I made a decision to take control of my actions. I need to hold myself accountable. There is this vision of myself. The all so powerful girl who wakes up early, starts her day with fitness, takes deep breaths, and maintains calmness throughout the whole day. My mind understand that if I set up a system and follow it the results will come and now my body just has to follow the steps without making the oh so many excuses that I am so clever at making. I CAN set an example of success for my daughter.
The Motivation To Be The Best Version Of Myself Plan
I started with a plan! First off. Location. Let’s set up the bedroom. I dragged my daughter’s old crib mattress from the basement storage and got it ready for the next morning. I always made excuses that the yoga mat was not soft nor comfortable but the crib mattress was comfy, my back was warm lying on it and it tucked away nicely in the bedroom.
Next clothes! Oh who needs exercise clothes first thing in the morning? Not this girl! Pajamas will do! Next the atmosphere! I downloaded a bunch of music and guided breathing meditation to my phone and brought upstairs the small lamp I had since high school with a very dim light.
Next I need a lovely small item to remind myself to be grateful. I picked a small little stone shaped like a heart. It will do perfectly since I am planning to be grateful with all my heart. I think this is it, and everything is set for my plan. I am ready and oh so eager! Tomorrow here I come!
The Motivation To Be The Best Version Of Myself Plan Progress
The alarm rang at 6am. I did not snooze. Success! Surprisingly my eagerness carried on with me. I opened my eyes, grabbed my little stone and thought of things I am grateful for. This part was easy. I reached over and turned on my little dim lamp. This was very nice.
I walked to the bathroom and after washing up I gave myself a little face massage. Bonus points for extra credit. After, I went back to the bedroom, grabbed my “yoga mattress”, and plopped right on to it. Then began with the very basic stretches I learned throughout my very little prior fitness experience. I decided I will do sit-ups. I did an incredible total number of eight. By this point I was beginning to feel like champion. I turned on my calming meditation and lied down on my back for my so very deserved rest.
Midway thought my six year old daughter entered the room confused as to why Mommy is lying down on the floor with the music on. After many giggles from the both of us, she lied down beside me and we had a lovely heart to heart chat about the sweet little things that my sweet pea had on her mind regarding her dollies and plushies. The best part about this new morning routine wasn’t the fact that I was succeeding at becoming better but the calmness that came with it. We got ready for school with no rushing, no frustration, just pure calmness.
The Lessons I Learned
Three months later I am still at. My plan was a success. Stopped making excuses and took my tiny steps to victory. I am at eighty six sit-ups now and more flexible than ever! Added a little more everyday and I slowly achieved what I thought was beyond my reach. I keep calm in situations that I definitely did not manage to in the past, which I am so grateful for. My greatest takeaway is the more bonding my daughter and I have successfully accomplished. She now has her own little “yoga mattress” under her bed and every morning she joins me in taking the “little steps of success”.
I am the type of person to curl up with a nice book cuddling my husband, our little one and our pets with a glass of tea. Not the type to wake up to want to exercise. But now I am still all those things with just a little more confidence and a pep in my step. I know its an age old saying that ” if I can do it, then you can do it too”. But it is absolutely true and I believe wholeheartedly that you can take tiny motivation steps to become the best version of yourself.
I have even started to incorporate new thing such as a calming first thing in the morning cup of tea while looking at the sunrise, jumping for one minute on a small trampoline, and holding on to my husband’s pull up bar with my legs swinging wildly in the air. I’m even including pushups! I can now do a grand total of zero, but five while on my knees. My darling and I have also started Zumba fitness DVDs. We dance, we make mistakes, and we giggle. And what more can a tea drinking, book loving, pet hugging mother ask for.
